AWLL 2017 Annual General Meeting and Independence Day Celebration

Dear AWLL Members:

Please join AWLL for our Annual General Meeting (“AGM”) on Tuesday, July 4th 2017 at 6:30 pm at Laura Devine Solicitors, 100 Cannon Street, London EC4N 6EU.

The event will be divided into two events:  The AGM, which is for members only, will be followed by an Independence Day Drinks celebration at 7:30pm, where all AWLL members and non-members are welcome.  The BBQ and drinks celebration will be held on the terrace, with great views of the city!

The Executive Committee of American Women Lawyers in London is responsible for maintaining the group’s presence in the London legal community, organizing professional and social events and promoting the AWLL brand.

The following positions are OPEN for election for a two-year term (2017-2019) in accordance with the American Women Lawyers in London Constitution:

– The President shall chair the Executive Committee, preside at all general meetings and recommend and supervise the execution of AWLL’s strategy and policies.

Vice President
 – The Vice President shall coordinate and monitor the day-to-day operations of the AWLL and the committees.  She shall fulfil the duties of the President in her absence and shall take on any additional responsibilities as requested by the President.

– The Secretary is responsible for scheduling, drafting agendas and taking minutes of the Executive Committee meetings and safekeeping of AWLL’s archives.

– The Treasurer shall keep proper accounting records and present periodic reports to the Executive Committee.  She shall prepare an annual budget, annual balance sheet and income and expenditure statement for approval by the Executive Committee and distribution to the members.

If you are interested in running for one of the positions above, please email Jeanette@awll.org.uk by Friday 23 June 2017 with:

  • Your name,
  • The position in which you are interested, and
  • A statement explaining why you would be a good fit for the position.

These position statements will be distributed to our membership in one mailing through our listserv after 23 June and before 27 June.  No formal campaigning will be permitted.

Voting will take place electronically from 28 June 2017 through 3 July 2017; the winners will be announced at the AGM on 4 July 2017.
There are two other Executive Committee positions that are vacant, but not up for election.  These positions are the Events Co-Director and the Marketing Director.  If you want to know more about either of these positions, please email Jeanette at Jeanette@awll.org.uk.

Please note that to attend the AGM, propose Constitutional amendments, run for one of the positions above or vote in the Executive Committee elections, you must be a member.
