AWLL invites you to celebrate International Women’s Day with us on Wednesday, 7th March, at the South Bank Center, Belvedere Road, London SE1 8XX. The show starts at 7:00 pm, and lasts approximately 60 minutes.
International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. To mark this important day and also kick off our first event of the year, AWLL has arranged for group tickets to the powerful and cheerful show Yap Yap Yap at the Royal Festival Hall. Yap Yap Yap is presented as part of Southbank Centre’s Women of the World Festival (“WOW”), which brings together artists, writers, politicians, comedians and activists for 4 days of talks, debates and concerts. Get ready for an evening of both hilariously irreverent and teary recreations of women’s speeches throughout history, from Sojourner Truth to Virginia Woolf, helping us all understand what’s been said before us so we can stand on the shoulders of giants. Think of Yap Yap Yap as a historical Vagina Monologues for people who love cat memes.
Written and Directed by Deborah Coughlin, the former editor of Feminist Time, Yap Yap Yap is a Gaggle Productions show, a punk feminist choir known for its diverse body of work (opera, live art, pop records, videos, apps, immersive theatre and comedy). This special performance includes actress Jamie Rose Monk, joined by a host of talent from the good and great of WOW.
We hope you will join us for what promises to be a brilliant evening supporting a very important day. After the show, we will enjoy drinks at a bar nearby and talk more about the show, and all things in honour of International Women’s Day, not to mention catching up with old and new members. Please invite your AWLL friends to join!
